About this Opportunity
Children and family programs are located in both the Early Years Building and the Community Services Building. Early Years is formally recognized as a provincial early years center. Programs and services are offered for families, infants, and children.
Our Community Services programs aim to promote physical mental, emotional and spiritual well-being and healing. Healthy families create healthy communities. These programs are located in the Community Services Building.

Reporting to the WCDC Manager, this position will provide Nsyilxcən language and cultural education and development services to children aged 0-5. This position will plan and facilitate early childhood programs for the purpose of creating a culturally enriched learning environment through language, play and land-based learning. The Language and Culture Early Childhood Support worker will be part of the Community Services team, and will work specifically in the Westbank Child Development Center.

• Develops and provides excellent Syilx/Okanagan culturally based programing for the children that promotes Syilx/Okanagan culture and Nsyilxcən language, school readiness and health & nutrition
• Provides social support and connect families with resources within the WFN community
• Keeps records as pertinent to the program i.e. daily notes, direct support hours, program planning, goals, strategies and communication and prepares reports as required by the WCDC Manager
• Follows policies and procedures as outlined by the Ministry in accordance with licensing, WFN and WCDC policies and procedures
• Keeps a neat and organized work environment
• Communicates with parents and caregivers and provides written and oral feedback; connects with families via program newsletters
• Enhances personal skills as part of professional development
• Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Westbank First Nation policies, standards, and procedures and as directed by the WCDC Manager

Must Haves:
• BC License to practice as an Early Childhood Educator (preferred)
• Valid First Aid with CPR
• Valid Food Safe Certificate (preferred)
• 2 years ECE or Nsyilxcən Language & Culture programming (preferred)
• Basic level of proficiency with Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Outlook
• Previous experience working with children ages 0-5
• Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search with results acceptable to WFN
• Valid Driver’s License and acceptable driving record
• Compliance with the BC Provincial TB and Vaccine Program
