Unit 3.5 Choking

Choking is a common cause of death for children under 5 years.
The following foods should NOT be given to children under 4 years old

  • Popcorn
  • Hard candies (including cough drops)
  • Gum
  • Whole grapes
  • Whole nuts and whole peanuts
  • Snacks using toothpicks, skewers or other small wooden or plastic “spreaders
