The preschool years are important times in children’s development as they prepare to leave the more sheltered world of their family and child care and participate in the larger arena of school and community.
This is the time when children are strengthening and refining their skills. Large muscle abilities are developing. Small muscle control is also improving and the preschooler is ready to take on more complex skills like tying shoe laces. Preschoolers are very sociable and enjoy playing with children their own age for much longer periods of time than toddlers.
With a rapidly growing intellect, the preschooler is no longer willing to accept things as they are. They want, in fact, need to know the how, when, where, what and who of everything.
