1.3 A Responsible Adult working in Licensed Child Care

Responsible Adult is a term used in the BC Child Care Licensing Regulations. BC Health has issued a Fact Sheet to explain what a Responsible Adult is.

A Responsible Adult is qualified to work:
• in licensed School Age Group Child Care
• in licensed Occasional Care and Child Minding
• in licensed Family ChildCare
• as a replacement (substitute/casual on call) for an ECE Assistant (for less than 30 days) in a licensed group child care or preschool. A Responsible Adult may NOT replace a fully qualified early childhood educator.

Other terms used in child care are:
• Early Childhood Educator
• Early Childhood Educator Assistant
• Infant/ Toddler Educator
• Special Needs Educator
• School Age Care Provider
• Family Child Care Provider
• Child Minder
• Child Care Worker
• Nanny
• In child’s home care
• Preschool Teacher
