2.3 Hand Washing

As a Responsible Adults you model healthy hygiene habits and teach children healthy hygiene habits.

Always wash hands:

  • when you first enter the child care
  • before and after preparing snack and meals
  • before and after mealtimes
  • before and after diapering or toileting
  • before and after providing First Aid
  • after handling pets and plants
  • after handling blood or other body fluids

A licensed child care facility uses regular liquid soap to wash hands, and one-time- use towels or air blowers to dry hands. Antibacterial soap is NOT recommended.

Hand Sanitizers can be used on occasions, such as times when no water and soap are available, e.g. on a field trip or picnic.
